A brief 14 chapter version of the best-selling "Understanding Psychology 6/e," "Essentials 5/e," retains an emphasis on critical thinking and practical applications. The mission of this extensively revised new edition is to foster student empowerment by giving students the tools they need to master the content of psychology, to think critically about student phenomenon, and to build an appreciation for how psychology can increase their understanding of the world around them. A key aspect of the revision is the incorporation of Robert Feldman's P.O.W.E.R. Learning System into the book and ancillary package. Based on empirical research carried out by learning researchers, the P.O.W.E.R. framework is a systematic approach to learning and studying based on five key steps (Prepare, Organize, Work, Evaluate, and Rethink) that aids the acquisition and retention of new material.

Psych City is a book that is used as a guide to organize a simulated community. The goal of the book is not only to create a simulated community, but also to provide opportunities for those involved in the experience to learn the events and patterns of life found in the community and examine the psychological, social, and political systems that are found in the community. The book is divided into two sections. Section I is the simulation proper, and gives detailed descriptions of simulated living conditions such as geography, population, housing, government, education, finance, and taxes. The first part also assigns the participants to the different roles they have to play and gives the community problems to solve. The second part is made up of sets of readings and exercises that pertain to the different situations found in the simulated community. The text is recommended for psychology, sociology, and anthropology professors that wish to give an interactive learning experience for the entire class, as well as those who wish to further study about community and conduct social experiments.

This is a strange book. Make no bones about it, it's weird. What can you do? I suppose you don't have to read it. But then what would be the point of all the words sitting there if you don't even bother to read them eh? I don't know, what are you like? Thinking of jumping ship already? Lightweight. Okay. So?this book is weird, it's strange but, hopefully, it's fun! Good! Let it be so! Okie dokie then. That?ll do for a prologue won't it? I don't know, do I have to say anything else? What goes into a prologue then? It's sort of the stuff before the main stuff isn't it? Um, well, er, I can't be arsed! Oh yeah?um?no? I forgot. Oh well, without further ado? hold on, I?ve just thought of something, yeah? SO you lot are lucky in a way, because I?ve read this book loooooads of times and the words by this point have kind of lost all meaning ? but for you they probably still have that ?new book? feeling to them. Good for you!
